A man's best friend of course needs a place to relax and be happy right?! Well MUTTS sure did think so when they open their doors this past Wednesday, and boy did we love it! Mutts Canine Cantina is the perfect place for dogs and their owners to let loose and have fun. MUTTS one-acre, off-leash dog park features open lawn spaces with six-foot fences, benches and rest
areas, and separate spaces for both large and small-breed dogs to exercise, socialize, and enjoy the
great outdoors. The 200-seat beer garden-style patio and lawn is a great place to gather with friends or meetnew ones. Whether you're meeting a group of dog lovers or hanging solo with your pooch, there's lots to do here. Soak up the sun and play with your dog in the lawn. Read the day's news (paper provided) and catch up on work on our patio. Or just enjoy a beer under their large oak trees. They offer free wifi so if you just have to send that email and also HD TV....no more staying home to watch the game. You and Fido can watch it some place other then your couch.
The menu is simple, great and reasonable! Three things I always love! Whether you’re a hot dog addict or a craft beer hound, believe me they have something for you there. From breakfast tacos to artisan dogs, local beers etc. They even have special treats made just for
good dogs. And it’s not just about the food at Mutts they also carry a
wide selection of great craft beers, affordable wines, and other
beverages to enjoy in the dog-friendly community beer garden.
Not everything has been a walk in the "Dog" park here at Mutts though. Mutts has upset some pet owners with a restrictive policy they had that forbids certain breeds of dogs. A group went to Mutts opening day with their dogs all though everyone else & their pooch were allowed. One was tutned away because her dog was on the list of breeds not allowed. A lady who runs the Dallas Dog Life rescue resource group posted a photo of their policy which stated the following:
The dog park does not allow the following breeds to enter: Chow, Presa
Canario, Doberman, Malamute, Husky, German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Pit
bull or Shar Pei.
After she posted this on her page of course Mutts was attacked by irate pet owners (clearly individuals with no children, we would not have time to complain about this) In reply Mutts said the rules were prescribed by their insurance company (could of done a little better with the excuse Mutts) But any who the next afternoon, Mutts co-owner Kyle Noonan said they had relaxed the policy and that only pit bulls would be banned:
"We've been working without insurance company today, and we have gotten them to lighten the restrictions." The only restricted breed in the dog park will be pit bulls."
Well Guys & Doll what can I say....It's a Doggy Dog world out there. xoxo~bree
